Hey beautiful ladies and gents - Thanks so much for stopping over here at this little blog I am so desperately trying to keep better track of! Today I am going over a big question that I have been getting from inquiring brides & grooms as we head into the 2018-2019 wedding seasons......
"Why don't you have more examples of your wedding photography on your website?"
Well this is a super loaded question that truly I could go on and on about for hours talking about my journey as a photographer and where I am at now, but its also pretty simple.... I updated my style! Within the past 6-8 months I have truly found my confidence in my photography & the way that I interact with my couples from bookings to engagements, bridals, and then your big day! I have found the warmth in my interactions along with my photography, and although my goal has always remained the same, my style has truly evolved through learning the business and myself as a photographer all over again.
Learning is a constant thing in the small business world, and over these few months I have learned a lot about where I was as a photographer and where I wanted to be. I was definitely the girl who had big dreams but not a whole lot of ideas on how to get there so for the past 2-3 years my focus has truly been on the business side. From making sure that my website and social medias stay up to date, to networking with other vendors, and attending shows and markets it has been a whirlwind of information and change. With that being said, I came to the realization that those things could only thrive if I was thriving as a creator which is why I turned my focus back to my art and finding my niche in this crazy big world of being a wedding vendor! Now that I have found that niche, its the problem of having enough inventory to effectively make change.... which is where I am at in transition now as I took this spring wedding season as a break from wedding photography. Although I took a break from the hustle and bustle of wedding days, I still continued my journey in my portrait work where I found the confidence I needed, but when moving forward with the next wedding season this has posed another question for my couples........
"How do I feel confident moving forward and booking you for my Wedding Day?"
This is still a really hard question to answer because with my bookings for weddings being this fall my section of images to portray my wedding day work has yet to change... While I still love the images that I put forward on my website I also understand as a human and as a former bride who had to go through the process of picking a wedding photographer that it can be a little scary going off of minimal images.
So how do I explain myself? Well the truth is I am completely 100% honest with my couples and that usually does the trick. Whether it is my portrait work or my wedding coverage my goal is always the same for my couples.
I want to capture you and your love in its truest form. From engagements to wedding days I am here to catch those moments that you will cherish forever so that when the memory fades you have something tangible to make those sparks fly again!
With the explanation of my growth, I direct them to the rest of my photography work especially the LOVE section of my website where my engagements are featured. This is the perfect place to see where I am at with my style, and the type of love and happiness you can expect to feel when looking at your own images. I know its hard but sometimes after getting to know the experience a little more and seeing my work from the past 6-8 months there is a strong connection to the way that I work for and with my couples. While the work is important, your trust in me as a photographer is the first thing I want to gain which is why I thought it was so important to share the changes that have been going on and be honest with not only my brides and grooms, but the inquiring couples and planners who hit my website.
So hopefully this helps answer the burning question of the 2018 season, and if you are looking to book with me hopefully this helps you understand my process and how much I care for and aim to capture your love.

XOXO - The Smith behind the Smitten
Erin & Jeff's sweet engagement session has to be one my favorites to date! One because we got to do it at the Ranger Ballpark, but two because they brought the LOVE. I met Erin back in junior high and although we lost touch over the years after going different ways in high school when she reached out about engagement photos I knew we were going to have a great time! And boy did we! From watching these two struggle to blow bubble gum bubbles, and getting to explore their love and relationship through baseball it was definitely a session to remember.
Erin & Jeff met about 4 years ago while Jeff was in a softball league with Erin's dad! The two instantly clicked, and after a few dates they knew it was right! Over the years their love and relationship have grown into a beautiful example of what love should be. Two hard working people, that just can't contain their love and feelings for one another. From giggles to sweet forehead kisses, you can tell this wedding and marriage are going to be amazing.
Now I know you are all wondering, how the heck were they able to do their engagement session at the Ranger Ballpark?! Well we had the perfect situation as Jeff works for the Texas Rangers! Best job ever right?! I think so!
Now, I have shot at the ballpark before, but this time was different as we had access to some of the most beautiful parts of the stadium. We had fun in the dugout, outer track, bullpen and finished off with some cuteness in the outfield. For other photographers out there, you can pay to do shoots at the ball park and depending on how much access you want the pricing varies! During my last shoot we had access to everything accept for feet on the field, and the photos still turned out great!
This shoot is definitely one for the books, and if there is anything that makes me completely happy with a shoot its when we can pull the surroundings and theme to be centered around my couples! Erin & Jeff both love them some sports especially baseball, but their love for one another is so much greater! To finish off the day I had the pleasure of capturing their love a little bit more at a local park where we switched gears a little bit and went back to a more classic engagement shoot style and it was the perfect way to end a wonderful session!!
It seems so redundant because you're shooting an engagement shoot, but so often you'll see posed photos where lets be honest the couples don't really look like themselves! Thats the exact opposite of what I strive for in my shoots. When I start the session I always start off by saying, "I want this to be as fun and relaxed for you two as possible. So lets have some fun, get weird, and have a great day!" Its my job to capture one of the most fun and exciting times in your lives and turn them into physical memories, so when I get my couples and start the process of working together I want to get to know you! Whether its meeting you at the session for the first time, or talking over email I want to know you guys as if you're my friends not just my clients! So if you're interested in becoming client besties, lets chat and make some photo magic!
Hello beautiful people!
I am so excited to finally start keeping up with a blog on my website so that you can follow along with me on this crazy journey of being a small business owner! As my first blog post I wanted to highlight an event I was just a featured vendor at, The Oak Cliff Wedding Market! If you have never been to a wedding market before its basically a big meet and greet between bride & groom combos and vendors! Vendors that attend can be anything from cake and florals, to calligraphy and photography like me! This time around I got to show off both and it was such an amazing event to be a part of! I first learned of the event through the amazing gals who planned it Megan & Caitlin from Celebrate Dallas! This bad ass pair of women are a Floral & Event Planning powerhouse, that just so happened to take care of my wedding as well! When the opportunity came about to do an event with them I had to take the chance and enter my very first wedding market and man did I make the right choice! .
The event happened Saturday, February 3rd at The Cliff House, Texas a beautiful new event venue in the Bishop Arts district in Dallas, TX. This amazing space just opened after being renovated from an old church... Talk about PRETTY! The space is filled with beautiful hardwood floors accomanied by gorgeous wood beams that highlight the the ceiling height opening up the space to beaming natural light! Even though we had a slightly gloomy Saturday, the space bounced every little bit of light it could capture off the walls and radiated a beauty that took you back in time but also yielded the inspiration and ideas of modern creatives, brides and grooms.
Along with myself there were oodles of vendors there to turn the day into a magical event! Vendors such as Christina Childress Photography who captured these amazing photos of the day, Kate Mcleoud Studio who's beautiful florals radiated at the booth behind me, Loft 22 cakes who brought the beauty through delicious tastings, and the gals from Celebrate Dallas who's florals and layout turned a beautiful table scape and event layout into an experience! Along with these amazing ladies there were so many other vendors that worked it out and together we all created an amazing day for all the new love birds!
For my booth I wanted to make sure that I was able to express every aspect of my business from calligraphy for envelopes to custom invitations, and photography! I featured some of my favorite samples along with a mini shopping station so you could take some of the magic home with you! My calligraphy & photography style stems from modern design and inspiration from nature. From florals to natures preserves, so much of my inspiration comes from the outdoors. I am a sucker for natures beauty and always do my best to pull it into my calligraphy & invitations as well as making the most out of it during my shoots.
When I meet with future clients I try to give them as much of me as possible, now that may sound a bit strange but its true! When I work with my couples I do my best to make everything as easy and painless as possible, and part of that for me is getting to know you and your other half! The better I know you, the better I will be able to create and capture your biggest moments. I can only hope that you end up wanting to get to know me too, because I love making friends with my couples!
Not only did I enjoy getting to know my couples but also their other vendors that are helping create the big day! One of my biggest tips to planning brides and grooms is that if you have a list of vendors, share their contact information with everyone! It is so nice and helpful to get to know and help other vendors create the most magical experience, and usually we can all use some help or information from those around us!
With that being said I was so excited and happy to meet some amazing guys and gals that I will hopefully be able to work and collaborate with in the future! You know you who you are.. hit me up!
Overall, this was an amazing event and I feel so lucky that I was able to be a part of the fun! If you are interested please enjoy more photos of the event courtesy of Christina Childress Photograph below and please look up and follow along with all of the amazing other vendors listed below!
